Address: 37.872720, -122.241458 (from Stadium Rim Way, head up Centinnial Drive, pass the Strawberry Canyon Pool, and up the road there will be a dirt parking lot to your left. If you reach the Botanical Garden, you've gone too far)
Parking: Free parking available at the dirt parking lot at the address above
Hours: Not posted
Type: Hike (moderate)
Regulations: Not posted (but many dogs are off-leash)
Best time to visit: Anytime, but not on a hot day
Description: This is a beautiful hike, popular with runners and UC Berkeley Students, with partially shaded trails and bay views. The fire trail follows Strawberry Creek and snakes uphill. Some of the hills are challenging, but it's an enjoyable hike. You can take the Upper Fire Trail to Frowning Ridge, or take the lower Fire Trail to Claremont Canyon. From the parking lot, you'll have a couple miles of challenging hills, but there are also some flat areas and gentler slopes to give you a break in between the hills. A couple miles in you will see a perfectly placed bench with a panoramic view of the bay. If you continue hiking on that trail, it's mostly flat, and you will eventually reach the UC Space Sciences Laboratory. The small dirt parking lot fills up fast on weekends, so I would recommend going early. You can usually find a spot on a weekday.
There are no restrooms or running water here.
