Please note that trail is very narrow in some sections. Description: This is a relatively new trail (completed in 2018) with a lot of history. Originally inhabited by the Coast Miwok people, the land was later settled by European immigrants in the mid-1800s. The park's name derives from the distinctive red soil found in the area, a characteristic that remains prominent to this day. Over the years, the park has served various purposes, from agriculture to recreational use. Throughout the hike there are photos overlooking the hillside of what the area used to look like.
This trail climbs 3/4 mile uphill 350ft and does not have any connecting trails. As you ascend the trail, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of lush greenery, rolling hills, and glimpses of the San Francisco Bay in the distance. The well-marked path offers a moderate level of challenge, making it suitable for hikers of various skill levels. Along the way, you'll encounter a diverse range of flora and fauna, adding to the enchantment of the hike. Soak in the tranquility of nature as you traverse through oak woodlands, wildflower meadows, and patches of fragrant eucalyptus trees. At the summit, be prepared to be mesmerized by a breathtaking vista and a perfectly placed bench that will make the uphill climb worth every step.
