You will have to look for a wooden deck with stairs, which will lead you into a eucalyptus forest. The Historic Trail takes you up a winding trail above the creek, which is mostly shaded and lined with towering trees and plenty of greenery. The trail is moderately steep, and not too difficult. After about a half a mile, you will enter the Mount Sutro Open Space Preserve. You can continue to hike here for several miles, with partial bay views on the hike up (mostly obstructed by trees). In total, you will have over 70 acres to explore between the two parks.
